I think every photographer has a Bucket List -- those things we would "love to shoot" someday. I've never had the chance to shoot a proposal. And it's high on my list for so many reasons!
Proposals are all the fun, romance, excitement and joy that I love about photographing couples on their wedding days-- all that raw and beautiful emotion. They happen quickly and have all kinds of moving parts, like "how do we get her to the location and have her dressed for portraits?!" Thankfully, I had the help of Emily Ventura Designs planning this perfect moment. She worked with the groom (Tanner) to arrange all the details, set up the story and helped with the timeline of events.
Starting in the afternoon with some professional head shots (a great reason for Hannah to be 1. downtown on the canal and 2. dressed up), Hannah looked amazing and had no idea what was coming:
See what I mean? Flawless. (I have a feeling Tanner will always treasure these portraits.)
Right around the corner, Tanner was set up on the steps to the Indiana State Museum for his extravagant skyline proposal. I walked Hannah down the canal and then, we rounded the bend:
Hannah was in shock. She had just gotten done telling me about when she thought Tanner would eventually propose. I listened to her tell me all the details of what he had said and when she thought he'd ask, and then watched her -- completely stunned -- walk up to meet him on the stairs. Tanner read a beautiful note to Hannah about his love for her over the years and desire to spend the rest of his life with her. She was so excited to say "Yes!"
Tanner + Hannah: What a beautiful proposal! We are so excited for you and thankful to have been able to capture this pivotal moment in your story. I am excited for the wedding and can't wait to celebrate with you and your awesome families! Love, Ash
On their way to meet family and friends for a celebration dinner later that evening, Tanner texted me this photo. Who gets a picture with the Colts on their engagement day? These cool cats:
