A few years ago, if you had asked me "What do you do?" "Who are you?" "Tell me about yourself." I would have quickly said, "I'm a photographer!" But this year a lot changed for me. I think I started to realize that there are other roles in my life that define me, first. Then, I'm a photographer.
What I really love is not photography; it's relationship. Photography just happens to the be the medium of choice for expression. This is probably why I would always choose to photograph people over landscapes or things. I'm fascinated by people.
Let me say it this way, if I no longer had photography, I would still be obsessed with people-watching, relationships, emotion, all the messy, unexpected, beautiful parts of humanity. And THAT is why I'm a photographer. I get the funny, thrilling, stressful, emotional, hopeful task of capturing relationship. And I LOVE it.
So, at the start of a new year, here is my highlight list from 2016. The most life-changing, impactful, pivotal moments that have changed me as a person, challenged me to think differently about relationship and consequently, greatly grown me as a photographer.
